Becoming an Advocate:
Shannon at our Wanko home participated in the Leadership Academy through the Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities, where she challenged herself to grow as a leader and advocate.
As part of the program, Shannon delivered a speech about what the Leadership Academy meant to her and why she chose to participate. She shared that she wants to be a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. This is a powerful reflection of her compassion and courage.
With access to leadership opportunities and encouragement along the way, Shannon has been able to build confidence, find her voice and step into a role where she can have a meaningful impact on others.
Building Independence:
This year, Dave took an important step forward when he moved from the Medina County Home into our Hastings home. Since the transition, he has settled in well and continues working toward greater independence in his daily life.
One of Dave’s biggest accomplishments has been navigating the community independently. With the right supports in place, he now uses public transportation to travel to and from his appointments. He also enjoys staying active at the Medina Recreation Center and spending time in the community. Dave has also been growing meaningful personal connections. He has enjoyed strengthening his relationship with his girlfriend, Maryann, and planning dates for the two of them.
Dave’s progress shows what is possible when individuals receive consistent, personalized support that empowers independence and confidence.
A Dream Come True:
Over the summer, Maryann at our Farlin home had a long-time dream come true when she attended a KISS tribute concert. KISS is her all time favorite band and seeing their music performed live had always been something she hoped to experience.
Exactly as she imagined, the night was full of excitement and joy. Maryann had the most amazing time, creating a memory that will stay with her for the rest of her life.
Moments like these are possible when individuals are supported in pursuing their interests and they create opportunities for joy and connection.
